Rebel Life Part 6-Eye for an eye

The Rebel Life Pt 6

"Eye for an Eye"

Life Group Notes

09-18-09

LIFE-GROUP LEADER INSTRUCTIONS

1. Take time to read the passages of study and pray through them. Work through them in your own life and consider yourself first in all of the questions below.

2. Think through ways that you can help the group understand that it is possible to live the Beatitudes, but NOT without Christ's help.

3. Think of practical ways to show our students that believing otherwise leads to self-righteousness rather than life in Jesus. Reveal sin and point out the need for repentance before the Beatitudes are fought for.

Passages of Study

- Matthew 5:38-48

Questions

1.What was the real true meaning of an eye for an eye?( to control Excess or an amount more than necessary)

2.Why would God even allow punishment?(Because not is not only gracious but he is righteous Duet. 32:4)

3.What is our initial human reaction when someone offends us?Why?

  1. Is an eye for an eye ment for people that are not christians? Why?(No, because you have to look at the sermon on the mount as a whole. And in order to be able to do verses 13-48, we must have applied verses 1-11 to our lives, which means have received Christ and his grace to do the things he is saying. By pushing this onto a non believer we are telling him he can do this without the grace of God. Not biblical.)

  1. Why is it so important to love our enemies?(Because we were once enemies of Christ and he loved us, so to show Christ love we love our enemies)

  2. How can you truly be able to turn the other cheek?(When your dead to your flesh)

Application

1.In what immediately practical ways can we live these commands out in our schools, families, jobs, etc?

2.How can we avoid being tripped up by the enemy while trying to live these things out?

3.How can we avoid being our own worst enemy while trying to live these things out?
